7 this year.

Bill Charney, the 78-year-old founder of the annual 5K run, is stepping down as chairman of the board of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, which puts on the event.

Charney, who started the run in 1971, tells the News & Guide that he's stepping down so he can spend more time with his beloved Old Bill's Foundation, which he says has raised more than $256 million for causes over the years, including supporting the sick and elderly, teaching kids to read, protecting wildlife, building affordable housing, and "touching the lives of everyone in Teton County."

The foundation says it's accepting applications from nonprofits for this year's run, which will have a new name: the 2024 Old Bill's Fun Run.

In 2023, the run raised a record-breaking $27,946,089 from 4,091 donors.
